jaja.co.uk ↗01 — The situation
Three Norwegian founders, all frequent international movers, all hit the same wall: no credit history, no simple way to get one, everywhere they landed. They set out to build something radically simpler, instant approval, instant issuance straight into your wallet, flexible ways to share and manage credit. The problem: legacy lending infrastructure couldn't do any of it. Before a single customer could be signed up, the technology to make "simple" actually true had to be built from scratch.
02 — What everyone said
Every other card provider ran on the same inherited infrastructure, the kind that makes instant issuance, flexible sharing and fast iteration structurally difficult, not impossible by choice, impossible by default. Complexity wasn't a competitor's strategy. It was just what the plumbing allowed.
03 — Where we put them
Make Simple.
Not a tagline sitting on top of the business. A filter running through all of it. Every piece of technology, every partner, every decision, pushed through the same test. Is it simple? Yes, deploy it. No, go again.
04 — What it cost
Refusing legacy systems meant building custom technology instead, and that meant real delay. The consumer launch "Make Simple" was built for didn't happen on the timeline anyone planned.
05 — What it changed
The delay revealed what the business actually was. The platform built to solve Jaja's own problem turned out to be the asset. Jaja went to market as B2B credit infrastructure before it went to market as a consumer brand, powering other cards, including the Bank of Ireland UK portfolio, Asda, AA and the Post Office, before its own consumer card followed.
