01 — The situation

The parent company, Island Bookings, ran a scattered set of booking engines, one per island, each with its own approach to search and its own local identity. No single brand carried the weight. As the business grew, that fragmentation stopped being manageable.

02 — What everyone said

Generalist travel platforms and broader ferry-comparison sites treated a ferry crossing as a line item, one more route in a database. Nobody was building for the granular, route-by-route local knowledge a ferry booking actually needs.

03 — Where we put them

Wherever you're going, go ViaFerry.

Not a generalist. A specialist, in ferry, everywhere. The name did double duty as the position, and the promise: whatever island, whatever crossing, this is the one brand built specifically to know the route.

04 — What it cost

Real search equity, geography-specific URLs like "Seychelles ferry bookings" each carrying their own ranking and local trust, folded into one unified brand. Harder to manage search in the short term, in exchange for one system carrying the whole business instead of dozens of disconnected ones.

05 — What it changed

The business is roughly twice the size it was before. That isn't attributable to positioning alone, brand-level results rarely are, but it's part of one rounded effort: bringing the technology, the story and the brand together under one name.
